Psychodynamic Therapy

BRISBANE & ONLINE

I offer psychodynamic therapy from my rooms in Ballow Chambers in Spring Hill, Brisbane, and to clients across Australia and internationally via telehealth. Psychodynamic therapy is a refuge for patients looking to be known and to know themselves deeply. It investigates the whole story of the patient’s life, on a search for the real, possibly unconscious origins of what is getting in the way of their fulfilment in the present.

If you’re interested in learning more about psychodynamic therapy as a framework, I’ve shared a summary of how I practice in this blog post. I’ve also written about the evidence base for psychodynamic therapy.

who is psychodynamic therapy good for?

Psychodynamic therapy is well suited to people who are:

  • Looking to answer questions about why they feel the way they do, not just strategies to manage;

  • Interested in spirituality and existential questions about meaning, identity and purpose, or who are going through a ‘spiritual emergency’;

  • Managing well on the outside with work, family, and other responsibilities, but who feel like something isn’t quite right;

  • Going through a life transition, including marriage, pregnancy, career change, illness, or a significant loss;

  • Suffering from mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, or post-traumatic stress.

I treat people from all walks of life, but have a particular affinity with fellow therapists (including health professionals of all kinds), creatives (performers, writers, and artists), and people juggling multiple roles and professional identities. I am also experienced and qualified in the treatment of trauma and other mental health conditions, although I do not treat people who are acutely suicidal or at high risk of harm.

If you find yourself amongst these descriptions and would like to discuss the possibility of working together, I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch.
